Spring Sprung

Well, my sketching has been sidelined a bit lately. I'm trying to replace the two garage door openers that the lightning killed, and the project just seems to keep growing. Stay tuned . . . sketch to follow. But, while doing yard work lately these darn tulips kept insisting that I sketch them. The yard isn't really green yet and the trees aren't awake yet. Kinda blaa. So, when these darn tulips spring up with the hyacinths they radiate color on steroids! You just gotta stare. Told myself I really didn't have time now to sketch. That worked for two days. Third day . . . I'm out there with my journal sketching. While doing my first mowing of some of the yard I see other things going on, too, that needed some sketching. Now that this sketch is done, I'll finish up on the garage openers.

P.S. Happy Birthday to me, or at least my identity as john-alooking.blogspot. Just noticed that one year ago today I started this blog! Glad I did.

I was delighted to find your latest page today. Spring is certainly 'in the air'. I love the different sketches that you've included -- and the conflict between flowers/blossoms and weeds. What a coincidence to find your apple blossoms. Just this morning I picked a small branch from my apple tree with some small pink blossoms just like on your page. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to sketch them today. But, seeing them on your page makes me want to do them tomorrow.

Great journal page. Do we love tulips so much because of their beauty/color or because they are such a fabulous signal that spring is here. I too was drawn to tulips yesterday - beds full of them in luscious shades of pink to sketch and paint.

What a nice way to document the arrival of spring...and I know what you mean about how projects seem to keep growing. Nice drawing!

Great Job John !
I now feel guilty that I haven't got my one 'only spread done' outside journal out of the office to at least the porch area--I'll get it as far as the kitchen table to remind me to have my coffee out side, for a change--if it's possible there are no vile May flies around to circle and dive around me--how sweet I am to them.I am trying the 'take a dryer sheet out with you'--and if this works--a whole new world will come into play. You are a perfect example of a sketch wizard-sprinkling magic on all the things your eyes choose-I look forward to seeing and reading your sketches.

Enjoyed your Spring beginnings John! The worst thing about being a snow bird between FL and mountains, is missing Spring! Spring was my favorite season living in Wisconsin, especially those early bloomers. And the lilacs! And peonies. Oh how I miss them!
