Wilma's Obsession

Ahh! The smell of a busy oven in the holidays. Food is such a part of it all. Watching Wilma cook up a series of confections gives me the idea for a sketch, so I get my gear out and sketch to the smells that only fresh baking can produce.

As the journal says, she has a love/hate relationship with the baking tradition. It's stressful and rewarding. She has trimmed down the quantity from a few years ago. Back then she did candies, too, like chocolate covered cherries. Very talented. Very addicted to creating confections. The whole extended family knows it, too, and has come to expect tasty treats when Christmas rolls around. They even put in a word for their favorites in the hopes she'll keep making them. We'll end up freezing some, too, so we can extend the good times.

Wilma is a treasure... her family is blessed to have a great baker at the helm. Wish there was a Wilma in my family... Merry Christmas to you and your family and especially to Wilma.

My family all ask for me to bake pecan pie! Every year. year after year. Guess that's a compliment! Looks like you both had fun.

Your sketch and story are a wonderful compliment to your wife and immediately conjures the smell of baking cookies in the oven! I'm a little behind on that front right now, but there WILL be cookies! Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Great journal entry John - it all looks very realistic and a great way to document your holiday traditions. And lucky you to get to enjoy all those goodies. You're also very smart not to pressure Wilma about the baking - I'm sure she appreciates it.
