Photography, Part 2

I made it out a few times to shoot some B&W film, and it's time to develop the negatives. This is the set-up I have. Since working with film is quickly disappearing with the advent of the digital age, this is a dying hobby. Should stay here for die-hards, though. I'm not really a die-hard, but I do like to dabble in it. I want to document the process in my journal so that in later years, when such things are long gone, I can look these pages over and have a flashback. Wish I could also capture the smells of the chemicals. It's an enjoyable process. I'm also working with my niece, who just finished a semester of photography in high school. She loves it all, both behind the camera and in the darkroom. I'm looking forward to sharing the hobby with her.

Love the whole layout---brings back memories of my dark room days---I think I used the same clock you have. I found drying the film in a warbrobe plastic square bag hung in there was the best place for the negs to not get dusty...great sketch!!!

Honestly, I can smell the chemicals just from looking at your sketch! My dad was a part-time photographer and I spent time in his dark room as a kid.

This is great.
I love your journal pages - the depth of colour, the detail, the annotations. I don't keep a journal but have just got Danny's book and recently joined EDM.

Sites like yours are the ones that make me want to try!!

Nice page John...loved the comment you made about remembering the smells of the chemicals...that, in itself, brought back a few vivid memories from my aspiriring photo journalist college days! I,too, loved working in the darkroom!

Oooh I can smell the chemicals too! My dad converted a big cupboard into a dark room and it was always a big adventure going in there. It's full of junk now but I presume they've still got the enlarger kicking around somewhere. Thanks for that. :)

I'm with Vicky, Margaret & Rachel; the smells of the chemicals are very evocative! I'm so glad to see so many of us who still love this art!! YES, it is an ART!! Thanks for the visit John! I'll have to sketch some of my equipment, too! I miss it terribly!
