Who's Winning?

The weekend started off rather routine. But then I found where the wood bees have been chewing up our deck. They've been flying around lately, but I never saw them land anywhere. I went into attack mode! I didn't say smart mode. Limited revenge, but a little research and some shopping around and I have a game plan to continue this war on a more thought-out basis with poison. Then, Sunday night, I had more critter problems. This time it turned out better for all involved. If you remember, in my April 22, 2008 post, I had another vole and I drew my approach to removing them from the Tiger Pit (basement egress window well). Those little buggers are fast, and really cute. Somebody needs to run a psychological profile on a vole. This one, too, had quite an attitude. Not like the timid mouse. Now I just need to get the wood bees under control.

This page is so well put together and soooooo funny to me. All the drawings are excellent and to think you even put the broken weapons in it----just great---it is 3:30 in the am here and I just thought to check the mail--what a treat to see this..

Yikes, those dang carpenter bees love to make "bullet holes" in our wood house!! Last year we also had squirrels nesting in the attick and termites in one wall - mice - regularly but cat works on that. I hope we don't get snakes next!!
Another Great jurnal page.

we just brought some wood bees home in some old fence wood that hubby was salvaging for another project. we hadn't had them before, but now they were swarming around the house. when he cut some of the 4x4s that they had nests in, they really got agressive. one little bore hole lead to many, many feet of sideways bore lines. amazing the tunnels and the messes in those pieces of wood!

beware of those bees!!!

Thanks for the testimonial, Jill. I've read articles they bore like that, but you're the first eye witness to verify it. And you give me an idea. In late fall I brought in some old trees and cut them up for firewood. I may have brought in these rascals. Need to go check my wood pile. Nice to hear from a fellow Kansan.

Hmm... I hope the snake was not the copperhead it looks like here!
Nice spread!

Nope, we were safe. The banding on a copperhead is more diamond & hourglass shaped and they don't have separate shapes along each side like this guy. We have had a copperhead swim toward us while kayaking once. THAT was a rush.

I love your sketch! I think I have a vole or mole, and they are not cute! Whatever it is ate the roots of my clematis! I tried some nasty smelling stuff that didn't work so now it's time for poison. I should do a sketch about it! :D
