Dad's PBJ Sandwich

Decided to take a night off my homework for Kate's Watercolor Pencil class and do a regular journal entry here. This started as a challenge in another journal group I'm in (LoveThisJournal) but I wanted to share it with my bloodline, some of whom follow my blog. I was a teenager before I learned that everyone doesn't eat this sandwich. I thought it was a standard. Then I was perplexed that most people, when learning what's in the sandwich, actually found it disgusting. Go figure!

I think I'm kind of glad I had my breakfast BEFORE I read what was in that sandwich! :D

Such a fun "memory page" and composition.

Wow, it's almost my Dad's "Special" except there are no saltine crackers on it (and sometimes he adds mayo too). What a fun journal spread!

I love this so much---and will no doubt try it by buying a couple slices of baloney where the dele lady will smilingly slice it for me...of course I'll tell her all about your journal page etc. I find it so delioghtful when you draw "how to" sketches :-)....they do help get the job done with smiles. Some person of the past, introduced me to peanut butter and mayonnaise with (it's the 'withs' that put these concoctions over the top to greatness) lots of black pepper shaken on---Colesterol Nightmare and it IS good.

LOL! My husband would LOVE this! A culinary delight, I'm sure.

Glad you got to go to Kate's art crawl; maybe you can make it to her sketch crawl too sometime?

Kirstin - This sandwich PLUS saltines and mayo?
winna - I'll try your PB-mayo-pepper, but that sounds weird. I DID try your buttered asparagus on toast and loved it! The crunchy/slimy combination is neat.
vickylw - I was wondering if you'd make it to the art crawl, too. I've read you and Kate both reference the sketch crawl and will try to tag along sometime.

loved your sandwich post ... very funny. Great page but not eager to try the sandwich. Ground up cow parts? Ugh!

John, this is hysterical! We always ate p-nut butter mayonnaise and lettuce but I think you win!

Who am I to talk? I like peanut butter and sweet pickle sandwiches!

And I'll bet your kids will love the memory, if not the sandwich...

great spread, I have never had that version but I LOVE PBJ - have you ever had it with PB J mayo - pickles and potato chips?? Quite a versatile sandwich! I did LTJ too - only the starter version, did you go further?

Sandy - I think your sandwich scares me more, but I don't eat pickles. PBJ with mayo? Hmm. As for LTJ, I just did the first one, also, and have considered taking another.

Just had a reasonable facsimile of your wonderful sandwitch---the thickness of the balony (#2 cut at the dele) was too thin so I added more---and you are right about the Velveta ( I haven't had it since I was a newlywed--)being just the right cheese, if placed properly, for this concoction-
-from this experience I can't see not adding grape jam to any grilled melted cheese sandwitch---with maybe some hot pepper flakes...or not....winna

You made my day, winna! I figured if just one person tried it, I'd be happy. I am.

I haven't been to your blog since the LTJ class -- just recently discovered you were in Kate's w/c pencil class. You need to get yourself over to her "alumni group!" Okay. . . this sandwich sounds really gross, my mom likes pb and sliced banana (no jelly) and that grosses me out, too! A doctor I used to work for kept ritz crackers, pb and catsup in his cupboard for emergency snacking. He would smear pb on the ritz and squirt it with the catsup EEWWWWW!

What a great working man's lunch--color, crunch, sweet, salty, cheesey, maybe some protein (gotta be some in there someplace). I love, too, the design of the page with sidebars and image placement.

It reminds me of what my dad said when I was spreading cold peanut butter on hot bread: "Take care of the edges, and the middle will take care of itself."

I love your sketch and journaling but the thought of putting meat and cheese in a PB&J sounds gross! Of course my hubby eats cheese and jelly together and that grosses me out too! :) Marva
